Playa Blanca and nearby places of interest

Playa Blanca has the reputation of the sunniest place on the island and is surrounded by beautiful beaches, both in the town itself and the nearby Papagayo peninsula

Beaches

Playa Blanca was originally a small fishing village and has a charming little beach at its centre. It is a golden sandy beach with rock pools at one end and has a good range of restaurants and shops.

Playa Flamingo beach is also in Playa Blanca in the direction of the lighthouse. It has gently sloping golden sands and is protected by a breakwater where the fishermen sit hopefully.

Playa Dorado is in the direction of the marina and is situated in front of the 5 star Princess Yaiza hotel. It's gentle waters are protected by a breakwater and there is a range of water sports on offer.

The Papagayo peninsula is a 10 minute drive from Playa Blanca and offers a series of unspoilt golden sandy beaches. It is also possible to visit using the boat service that runs from P.B. harbour. There are limited facilities so it is advisable to take a picnic although you can gets drinks and ice creams there.

Restaurants

There is a huge choice of restaurants in Playa Blanca ranging from Spanish tapas bars, to Irish bars, to Chinese restaurants to Fish restaurants. Most restaurants welcome families and it is very easy to eat out with children.

It is worth visiting the Almacien del Sel restaurant which is one of the original spanish restaurants, in prime position next to the village beach. There is a pianist playing in the upper gallery in the evenings and the restaurant has a lovely atmosphere.

The Irish Anvil bar is great if you have children, they have a good range of reasonably priced meals, now available evenings as well as lunchtime. It is situated on the promenade near the harbour and the children can play outside while they are waiting. This is also a favourite meeting place for the ex-pat community and a focal point for any major sporting event. They have live music every evening after 9:30 and comes highly recommended.

La Bodega is a good fish restaurant located in the centre of P.B. but away from the seafront. It is always busy so advisable to get there early or book.
